| Introduction To Risk Control
Welcome to the Pollution Risk Management Resource Site. The Risk Control Team of XL Insurance is committed to providing pollution risk management services that are a useful resource to our Policy Holders in controlling environmental risks and reducing losses.
Our Policy Holders face a myriad of risks in their daily operations, some of which can have a severe impact on the viability of their operations. Our Risk Control Team’s risk management services are designed to specifically help minimize these risks.
Some of the benefits of XL Insurance’s risk control include:
- Identification of risk management priorities and corrective actions needed
- Improved fiscal planning and resource allocation
- Increased productivity and profitability
- Improved regulatory agency compliance.
- Potential reduction in emergency response and business interruption exposures
- Potential reduction in worker safety exposures and third party exposures.
One of the principal methods of providing this service to our clientele is facilitated through updated safety and environmental information, available through our website and news bulletins. We also provide direct consultation; and in many cases, as a first step in the risk control process, on-site risk evaluations.
The on-site evaluation or risk assessment is conducted by an XL Insurance risk control professional. (The Environmental division of XL Insurance also has available a worldwide network of pre-qualified subcontractors that can provide a broad range of specialty services.) A risk assessment will provide loss control feedback and recommendations designed to improve your risk management programs, and may reduce your environmental liability. If an assessment is necessary, an XL risk control professional will contact you to arrange a site visit.
The risk assessment will examine a number of key areas associated with past and present site activity. Some of the topics reviewed may include:
- The type of substances handled and their associated risk
- The internal management and operational controls exercised in material handling, processing and storage
- The current waste management practices for all associated waste streams
- The facility’s proximity to population centers and other sensitive receptors
- Ongoing environmental, safety, and regulatory compliance programs.
The risk assessment is comprehensive and includes reviewing documentation, a facility walk-through, and taking photographs. The confidentiality of the information is always protected. Click on the Risk Assessment Information link at the right for a complete listing of information generally requested for an on-site risk evaluation .
Please browse the library of information and resources available on our website. You may download bulletins or other documents that you feel would be helpful in reducing your operational risks. The Environmental division of XL Insurance also offers an extensive video lending library to assist in managing your immediate exposures.
